The University of Chicago undertakes numerous design and construction projects over the course of the year. Many of these are renovation projects which must be procured, designed, and constructed within a tight time schedule, consistent with the academic calendar. As a means to accelerate this process, IDEA was engaged by the University to minimize project award by means of term agreement on a selected number of projects. Such an arrangement allows the University to award certain projects without a prolonged A/E selection process and with the intention of expediting the building permit process. The projects vary in size and scope, from ADA improvements and feasibility studies, including programming and construction cost estimating services to assist the University in assessing project scope and budget for future campus-wide improvements, to department relocations and renovations. Other projects include expansion space for University Research Administration, Pavlesky Cinema improvements, and the Regenstein Library Feasibility Study.
