Rocket Ice Arena Renovations

Rocket Ice Arena was designed and constructed as a two phase project. Phase 1 consisted of converting the original Bolingbrook Park District wave pool into a single sheet ice rink facility to permit club hockey and ice skating programs which are sought-after community assets. Phase 2 added a second NHL sized ice sheet specifically developed for local high school and club hockey programs. The addition reorganized the main entry and staff facilities and expanded concessions and skate rentals, along with adding additional support facilities including four new locker facilities, Sabre ice hockey club space, exercise room, heated spectator viewing area and lobby areas for parent and child skater dressing.

IDEA provided services to a local developer to design-build both projects to achieve a viable ongoing commercial facility. Municipal incentives fostered the development to provide the community with various programs that were too expensive for the Village to provide on their own in an aging existing facility. Our significant past experience with hockey programs assisted in the design organization and decisions for the retail and concession development. The completed project has outperformed expectations.
