US Social Security Administration Chicago Service Center
The Social Security Administration (SSA) is evolving its public service model to enhance efficiency and public access through the integration of self-help, touchscreen technology. IDEA provided initial planning services laying out multiple schemes and innovating new ways to integrate technology into the architecture. SSA was so enthused with the concepts developed that they contracted IDEA to design their first U.S. prototype for a new service center at the Harold Washington Social Security Center in Chicago, IL. The project has created a new public entrance to the existing building that draws visitors into the completely renovated 9,400 SF space. The interior space seamlessly combines both person-to-person and technology-driven interfaces including new, custom designed kiosk furniture systems that integrate today’s technology and provide universal design for SSA’s diverse users.
